Curriculum


Creekside Christian Academy is dual-accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) & Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). 

Creekside Christian Academy’s basic core curriculum is A Beka, an accelerated Christian curriculum. In addition, CCA utilizes a variety of resources, many of which are Christian publishers, to offer our students a well-rounded curriculum. All instructors infuse Christian truths within each discipline taught.

 

K3 (Three-Year-Old Class)
The K3 curriculum is a structured, preparatory program which includes learning the alphabet, colors, shapes, counting to 50, health, manners, safety, science, songs and finger plays and Bible time. An introduction to Spanish and library time are also included. Three-year-old children do not receive letter grades, but are evaluated.

K4 Readiness (Four-Year-Old Class)
The K4 Readiness Program has a definite curriculum including phonics preparation, writing, numbers, art, poetry, music, Bible instruction and fun activities. Children learn the alphabet, number concepts from 1-20, counting from 1-100 and introduction to computers. An introduction to Spanish and library time are also included. K4 children do not receive letter grades.

K5 Kindergarten (Five-Year-Old Class)
The kindergarten program is a complete educational program that teaches children how to read phonetically. The curriculum includes several small readers, workbooks and phonics cards. Children learn the letters and sounds of the alphabet and learn to read (450-word vocabulary). A complete range of subjects is covered, including pre-cursive writing, art, poetry, music, science, numbers (including addition concept) and continued keyboard instruction on computer. Children learn to count from 1 to 100 by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. An introduction to Spanish and library time are also included.


First Grade

Reading: Students read ability appropriate materials. Phonics: The letters of the alphabet and their sounds are taught and the principles needed for basic reading skills are taught and reviewed. Pre-cursive (manuscript) Writing: Students will learn spelling and learn to write words and sentences. Arithmetic: The emphasis is on addition, subtraction, time, money values, story problems and simple fractions. History, science, computer skills, art, music, Spanish, Bible instruction, poetry memorization, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included. 


Second Grade

Students have a thorough review of first grade material and build from that firm foundation. Reading: Students will read many age and ability appropriate books. Phonics: Students will continue letters and sounds instruction and word analysis skills.  Writing: vocabulary building, penmanship and cursive writing. Arithmetic: addition, subtraction, introduction to multiplication, division, and Roman numerals. History, science, computer skills, art music, Bible instruction, Spanish, poetry memorization, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included.


Third Grade

Reading: There is a variety of age and ability appropriate readers; begin development of comprehension skills. English: grammar, punctuation, penmanship, spelling, vocabulary and poetry. Arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, combinations, measure, story problems, etc. History: an over-view of America. Science: natural and physical science. Bible instruction, art, music, computer skills, Spanish, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included.

Fourth Grade

Reading: Character-building and patriotic stories, comprehension development skills, vocabulary-building materials. Spelling and Vocabulary: 30 words per week. English: grammar and usage, composition. History: general survey of American and Georgia history, introduction research project (Georgia notebook). Science: survey of earth science, weather, plants, insects, water, etc. Arithmetic: story problems, practice in speed and accuracy in the four arithmetic processes, multiplication facts through 12, multiplying by three-digit numbers, dividing by two-digit numbers, working fractions, measures. Bible instruction, art, music, computer skills (especially in word processing), Spanish, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included.


Fifth Grade

Reading: Character-building stories and novels, book reports. Spelling and vocabulary: 30-35 words per week, definitions. English: grammar and usage, creative writing, library research project. History and Geography: study of American history and 20th Century history. Science: survey of weather, energy, plants, animals, geology and insects. Arithmetic: practice in speed and accuracy in the four arithmetic processes, decimals, fractions, word problems and continued computer skills development. Bible instruction, art, music, computer skills, Spanish, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included.

 

Sixth Grade

Reading: Character-building/patriotic stories, comprehension development, book reports. Spelling and vocabulary: 35+ words and definitions per week. English: grammar and usage, creative writing, library research project. History and geography: a study of the Western Hemisphere, map work included. Science: creation, chemistry, physics, earth and space science. Arithmetic: practice in speed and accuracy in the four arithmetic processes, decimals, fractions, percentage, graphs, metric system, geometric figures.   Computer usage (especially in preparing reports).   Bible instruction, art, music, Spanish, library time and structured physical fitness education are also included. Band and chorus are offered on an elective basis.

 

Seventh Grade

Bible instruction focused on application. Math: general math operations with an introduction to algebraic expressions.   English: grammar and composition applied in daily and report usage; literature survey, spelling and vocabulary words. Science: life science covering a wide range of physical and natural science. History: combination of World and Georgia history. Physical education: exercise and skill development. Electives: choice between Art, Band, Chorus, Journalism (Yearbook), Computer Science, Home Economics, and Speech/Drama Programs.

 

Eighth Grade

Bible instruction focused on practical application. Math: Pre-Algebra; qualified students may take Algebra I. English: grammar and composition applied in daily and report usage, development of literally appreciation, including classics, spelling and vocabulary words. Science: Pre-Physics. History: U.S. History. Physical education: exercise and skill development. Electives: choice between Art, Band, Chorus, Journalism (Yearbook), Computer Science, Home Economics, and Speech/Drama programs.

 

Ninth Grade

Bible instruction focused on practical application. Math: Algebra I or Geometry.    English: grammar and composition; literature, spelling and vocabulary words. Science: Physical Science. History: World Geography.   Physical education: exercise and skill development. Electives: choice between Art, Band, Chorus, Journalism (Yearbook), Computer Science, Weight Lifting, and Speech/Drama programs.

 

Tenth Grade

Bible instruction focused on life application. Math: Geometry or Algebra II. English: grammar and composition; literature; spelling and vocabulary words. Science: Biology. History: World History. Foreign Language: Spanish I. Electives: choice between Art, Band, Chorus, Journalism (Yearbook), Computer Science, Weight Lifting, and Speech/Drama Programs

 

Eleventh Grade

Bible instruction focused on producing genuine internal changes using principles from the Beatitudes in Matthew, chapter five.   Math: Algebra II or Pre-Calculus. English: grammar and composition; literature; spelling and vocabulary words. Science: Chemistry. History: U. S. History. Foreign Language: Spanish II. Electives: choice between Art, Band, Chorus, Journalism (Yearbook), Computer Science, Weight Lifting, Speech/Drama Programs

 

Twelfth Grade
Bible instruction focused on applying Biblical principles to live out a true Christian life (including Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University).  Math: Calculus, Trigonometry or Consumer Math.  English: grammar and composition; literature; spelling and vocabulary.  Science: Physics or Anatormy; History: Government/Civics.  Elective choices: Art, Weight Training, Band, Chorus, Yearbook, Computer Science, and Speech/Drama programs.
